A retirement income summit organised by Auckland University will be helpful in starting the conversation around a number of issues being studied by the Commission for Financial Capability in its three yearly review of government policies, says Acting Retirement Commissioner Peter Cordtz.
The one day summit on April 26 is being organised by Auckland University’s Retirement Policy Research Centre (RPRC) and the Public Policy Institute. It will feature speakers on the implications of New Zealand’s ageing population, the equity and distribution of retirement income, aspects of KiwiSaver, and the international picture.
Cordtz, who is also Head of Community Programmes at CFFC, will speak on retirement issues affecting low-income New Zealanders, and CFFC’s National Manager of Retirement Villages, Troy Churton, will speak on the need for employers to consider the opportunities presented by an ageing workforce.
The Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Hon Kris Faafoi, will speak about the purpose and aspirations of the 2019 Review of Retirement Income Policies.
Cordtz said CFFC appreciated the work that had gone into organising the summit, which would provide valuable input into the Review.
“We hope the summit will act as a conversation starter among experts and the public on the many topics our Review will study through the year,” said Cordtz.
CFFC had also commissioned RPRC to undertake two of a number of research projects being undertaken during 2019 to inform dialogue around the Review’s Terms of Reference and assist in the forming of recommendations. The Review report is due to be tabled in Parliament in December.
