Website: athenawealth.nz

Based in: Auckland.

Broader area of facilitation: Online nationwide, and face to face in Whangārei, Auckland and throughout the Waikato.

Sorted at Work sessions I'm available to facilitate: All of them.

Professional qualifications: I'm a certified Financial Planner CM, and have a Graduate Diploma in Personal Financial Planning.

What inspired me to become a Sorted at Work facilitator: My career has been in financial services over 25 years, specifically in estate planning, investment management and financial planning, so I’ve seen the positive impact actively engaging and learning more about managing money and planning for the future has on people’s lives. I love how the Sorted at Work programme reaches out to people in our community, and wanted to participate in guiding people through the pathway to developing long-term financial wellbeing.

What people can expect from my sessions: Engaged and involved sessions in which we share stories and I incorporate interesting snippets from my years of helping individuals, couples, families and trustees manage their money and assets.

What I enjoy most about being a Sorted at Work facilitator: Meeting people and hearing about their experiences.

So Sumita, what’s so great about Sorted at Work? I appreciate the purity of the purpose – the financial wellbeing of New Zealanders. Sorted at Work’s programmes have been developed by the Retirement Commissioner’s office, whose main objective is to support everyone to be financially capable. It’s an independent and affordable programme with no hidden agenda or kickbacks.

What’s something you suspect people don’t realise about it and Sorted.org.nz? Over the past few years, with the growth in KiwiSaver, more and more New Zealanders have become aware of the Sorted website and its friendly mouse, which is fantastic! Conversely, I don’t think there’s enough awareness of the availably of the wonderful Sorted at Work courses designed for workplaces. I don’t think people realise how easy it is to book sessions for their staff, and the flexibility that’s available to implement the courses to suit company hours and the nature of their business.

What do you love about working in financial capability? I love meeting people and listening to their stories, and learning about the positive impact that financial capability has on their lives and the resilience it brings them to help them manage difficult times. What I bring to the table is the mantra I’ve learned through experience: The meaning of success and wealth is different for each person and no two life journeys are the same. I’m an enabler by building awareness of some fundamental rules, tools and systems that can help people make the most of their money and navigate their unique life journey.

What positive outcomes do you see for people who take steps to upskill? A feeling of empowerment and financial resilience. People who complete Sorted at Work programmes are aware of what to look for when they have to spend money, save money, borrow money and protect their money at a basic level. The advanced courses provide knowledge and smart ideas on how to save, invest and build your assets through buying property and/or investing in the share market, and also make you aware of the risks so you’re prepared to deal with adverse situations.

What would you say to anyone who’s considering booking a Sorted at Work session? Just do it! The return on investment of time and money for your staff of a Sorted at Work programme is an informed, confident, resilient workforce who will be more engaged at work. Financial capability reduces stress and helps your staff focus on being successful. Investing in Sorted at Work courses shows them you’re invested in their financial wellbeing.
