Lower Hutt

Based in: Lower Hutt.

Broader area of facilitation: Online nationwide, and face to face in Wellington, Hutt Valley, Porirua, Kāpiti and Wairarapa.

Sorted at Work sessions I'm available to facilitate: I’m experienced with the full range of Sorted at Work sessions, from one-hour Money Bites seminars/webinars, to two-day, in-person workshops covering topics in much greater depth. I have a very flexible schedule that generally allows me to fit with the times that best suit participants.

What inspired me to become a Sorted at Work facilitator: I’ve been involved with Te Ara Ahunga Ora Retirement Commision for many years as a writer, editor and proofreader, working on guides, website content and the Sorted at Work programme resources. In 2017, I took the next step and became part of the facilitator network.

What people can expect from my sessions: Fun, humour and sharing stories support our learning. Everyone’s experience is valuable, and my job is to create a welcoming space in which people can share and learn from each other.

What I enjoy most about being a Sorted at Work facilitator: I love the interaction with participants, especially those ‘aha’ moments when people learn something that will make a difference in their lives, and seeing them realise that a lot of the actions are not that hard and they can make a plan to achieve their goals.

What's something you wish you could tell everyone about the pluses of the Sorted at Work programme? It’s a great way for employers to support their employees’ wellbeing and to recognise the part financial know-how can play in this. Having it organised through work and delivered in a familiar place with familiar people breaks down barriers that might otherwise prevent people from learning.

What positive outcomes do you see for people on the courses you facilitate? I love seeing their energy and confidence grow as they realise there’s so much they can do to improve their financial position – even small things make a difference – and that it’s not all “too hard”.

How do you and the programme make learning about financial matters more fun? Knowledge is important but application is the key. The Sorted at Work courses are designed to get participants involved, using thought-provoking discussion topics and lots of activities to help them see how they can make the information work in their own lives.

What would you say to anyone who’s considering booking a Sorted at Work session? Just do it! Everyone benefits.
