Papakāinga Ahungarua | Retirement Villages

Under the Retirement Villages Act 2003 the Retirement Commissioner is required to monitor the effects of the retirement villages legal framework. This includes the Act, associated Regulations, and the Code of Practice. We aim to help the government provide and manage a legal framework that is fair and balanced for both consumers and the industry.

Our office is also required to advise on issues relating to retirement villages when requested to do so by the Minister, and to help educate the public about retirement village issues, including the financial implications of moving into one. We do this by publishing information on this website and our Sorted website, and by running seminars and webinars.
